Don’t let its childish appearance fool you! This is an A-Grade JRPG that I haven’t seen for a while.Every aspects of this game blend together perfectly , soundtracks, visual , deep gameplay. If you are a JRPG fan who is looking for a decent game. This game is a no brainer to buy.
It’s quite easy to progress through the storyline because the game tell you where to go next by adding “a star point” in your map. So no confusion here. If you come across the puzzle . There is always a hint in conversation ( keep an eye on red texts). Nothing is too hard to figure out. Just a little brain exercise . Once you are in the first city in parallel world ( the magic world) . You are free to explore the map and do tons of side quests which is definitely worth for your time and efforts. When you finished a side quest you will get merit points that used for trading many cool rewards.
Monsters can be seen on a map . You can have the advantage by approach them from behind and be the first to attack. ( Same goes for you if you are approached from behind , an enemy will have the upper hand) . Just like typical JRPG , its combat is turn-based. Don’t worry it’s not boring or made you fall asleep like most of them. The game keep you alert all the time e.g. monsters always drop a “glim” that can restore you hp/mp so you have to move your character around not just smash the same button to finish the combat. And there is a good reason to use “Defend” command in a combat unlike the most turn-based RPG out there. ( Some massive attacks from monsters can do huge damage and you will be safe if you can use “Defend” command just in time) Moreover , Boss battles are fun, tough , challenging and require to play strategically.
One of the coolest feature in Ni no kuni Wrath of the white witch is the ” Familiar system”. As a wizard , it’s kind of weird if you don’t own a familiar right? Well you can summon your familiar to aid you in combat but the he game provide you with a few familiars at the beginning . Later on , you will be able to tame any monsters to become your familiars! ( Except bosses ) And once your familiars reach their specific level . You can feed your familiars with a special food to make them evolve into new forms which are stronger( metamorphosis) . ( Be warned , you and your familiars share the same hp/mp if they die , you die too. )
Another cool thing to do besides from an excellent combat and familiars hunt is the “alchemy” ( or crafting). You can craft anything from medicines , armors or even high-end magic weapons.
Ni no kuni Wrath of the white witch will make you feel like watching a great Japanese anime and the game keep you giggling all the time from its funny dialogue . ( Mr. Drippy play the major role here) And there is a tearful and dramatic moment that made you want to cry.
Lively , colorful and gorgeous game environments. Playing this game with 1080p resolution can’t make you disappoint.
I have tried to find a flaw of this game soundtracks but I can’t find any. It has a perfect voice acting . And its symphony style soundtracks will draw you to its magical world.
Level-5 has done a great job again. This game is a gem among its genre.
